New Economic Policy - Entry #2

Led by Tun Abdul Razak, the government was able to form a National Operations Council (NOC) during the rise of the riots, when the government declared a state of national emergency and also suspended Parliament. The stated goal of the plan was to eventually eradicate poverty among races, especially the Malays. The implementation of the NEP was one of NOC's first executive decisions. Through a vigorously developing state of the economy, the government was trying to reduce the non-Malay share in the economy under approximate conditions, in return with absolute terms. After the Parliament was renewed in 1971, Tun Abdul Razak officially became our country's second Prime Minister.
